SCIENCE ABSENCES:
Eighth Grade Online Assignment Sheet
What to Do If You Are Absent from Science
Overview:
The Mount Horeb Middle School curriculum is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Throughout the entire year, we will be teaching the students to think and apply what they know. We use scientific inquiry in each of our units. The National Science Education Standards (NSES p. 23) defines scientific inquiry as "the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world and propose explanations based on the evidence derived from their work. Class attendance is very important. We are not just learning about science; we are doing science.
Units:
Earth History, Genetics, and Evolution
Here we will look at how traits are passed from one generation to the next. We will use this set of concepts to help us understand the basic processes of evolution. Then we will look at Earth's history using biological evolution as one tool for determining how things have changed on Earth throughout time.
Electricity, Waves, and Information Transfer
In this unit, students will use investigations to explore energy transfer and transformation, wave properties, electromagnetic radiation, and information processing.
Space Systems Exploration
We will explore our solar system and Earth's place within it. This unit also has strong STEM connections.
