So you want to be a college athlete? Congratulations, that’s great! You have spent countless hours and days learning and excelling in your sport so now you will need to look into the process of becoming a college athlete. You, the student-athlete, must take an active role in the recruitment process. MHHS will help you with the admissions process and your coaches can assist you in the recruitment process.
Here are some important steps:
- Set up a time to talk with your head coach. Don't assume he/she knows what your plans are. Your coach will help you communicate with coaches so that you can get some recognition and begin the recruiting process.
- Set up a time to talk with the Athletic Director. Your Athletic Director will give you some reading materials, important links and introduce you to the guidance counselor that you will need to work with on the academics side.
- Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. The NCAA has created rules to govern competition and student academic eligibility for play. The NCAA schools are divided into three divisions. Division I & II members may offer athletic scholarships. While Division III schools may not offer athletic scholarships; 80% of Division III athletes receive non-athletic aid.
- Throughout your four years of high school; continue to meet with your guidance counselor and keep track of grades.
